The Deaf Village E-Mail Guide

Posting messages to other Villagers is all very well, but there's not much privacy. If you need to send a private message to another Village member the best way to do it is to the the built-in E-Mail facility.

Throughout the Deaf Village you'll see that when a user name is shown against a post or topic, it is displayed as a clickable link, like these here:
When you click the user's name, you'll be taken to the Village E-Mail page. If, in our example above, we were to click on the user ABBAgirl, it'll look something like this:
As you can see, it's a fairly straight-forward sort of page. The page details are discussed below:

Expose E-Mail address

If you leave this box unticked, your E-Mail address will not be passed on to the person you are mailing. The message will be clearly marked as having come from you, of course, but it will not contain your return E-Mail address. If they want to reply to your message, they will have to come to the Village and use the E-Mail facility to do so.
However, if you tick the box then the recipient will be shown your E-Mail address and then they can reply directly to your mail, without having to return to the Village.

Subject

This is where you should type the E-Mail subject line.

Message

This is where you type the text of the E-Mail message.

The Send e-mail button

When you're ready, click this button to actually send your E-Mail.
Reading your E-Mails
The Village E-Mail facility is one-way only. It sends your message to the external E-Mail address of the recipient - that is, the E-Mail address they used when they registered with the site. Likewise, if someone sends you an E-Mail, it will be sent to your registered E-Mail address, and you have to read it using your own E-Mail program - you won't find it anywhere in the Village.

What next?

Once you get settled in at The Village, you might want to check out The Deaf Village Community Guide. You'll find out all about why people post where they do, why and how The Deaf Village came into being, who (and what!) is a Moderator, and all sorts of useful hints and tips gathered together from other Villagers' own experiences. Read the guide to find out more.
If you'd simply rather get a feel for the place yourself, you can go straight to The Village instead.
